You should be aware of power structures

These past few weeks, Im staring to become more aware of the power structure in my country, Malaysia.

It started with simple goal to learn global history. As a fictional author wannabe, the initial intention was to get inspiration from real life event to write a fiction book. Because I notice a lot of mature plot actually involved real life events!

I started with a history book of King Leopod II that famously known for vicious human exploitation in Colonial Africa. It hooks me and it really interesting to see chain of event happening after another that lead to a historical event.

But if there is one thing I learned from it, it was the fact that, the world is quite competitive

I have been playing small

The imperialism era was all about who expand more than their neighbouring countries. It often include monopolization of resources through a cause, to bring civilization to uncivilized people. The one that monopolize are the one that have influences.

From the colonized side of view, being a village chief, you just can’t stand seeing your neighbours get their hands on gunpowdered weapons. Staying still means you’re being left behind and susceptible to powerful attacks

So the village chief decided to make agreement with the foreign trader. In exchange for guns, he sell his people as slaves.

Do you see the patterns? Everyone has their own self-interest. It is 2026, though the landscape has changed, the core is still the same. Everyone is competing. When AI emerged, do you think the big players (Google, Apple, etc) stay still? They are literally pouring money into R&D.

Malaysia primarily known for its strengths in semiconductor assembly, testing and packaging is now trying to go through a transfomation. Malaysia dont want to be component supply forever. They want to become a strategic innovation partners.

Instead of staying still, they are moving to high-value segments such as chip design and advanced manufacturing technologies.

What does this means for normal citizen like us?

The game the big players play on a global scale isn’t any different from the game we play in our daily lives. They are acutely aware of supply chains and the power structures that control them. They are aware of laws and what kind of powers some certain person in the government have.

Your country’s legislation is literally free and public. It maps out exactly how money flows from taxes to the government, into projects, and back into the economy. Being unaware of this cycle means you are being left behind.

Awareness is one level. To take informed decision is another level. Here is where your analytical thinking comes in handy. You must be able to position yourself properly if you want to win this game.

So keep moving foward. Learning this makes me excited as there are endless of possibility to play my cards

Thank you for reading!
